Morocco Gold recently attended the Packaging Innovations London 2018 at London’s Olympia as guests of DSSmith. We wanted to highlight the premium ecommerce packaging we had been developing alongside DSSmith.
Morocco Gold is a luxury extra virgin olive oil from an entirely new source. The bottle, labelling and presentation reflect a premium product that is now being sold in high-end retailers like Fortnum & Mason and Partridges of London. We created a premium ecommerce package that we describe below.
The quality and presentation of packaging on display at the show was truly awesome with a range of new materials, state-of-the-art processing, luxury finishing and environmentally sustainable solutions.
We were however struck that the vast majority of the packaging on display was for in-store presentation, with very little packaging specifically created for ecommerce / internet retailing. We did ask exhibitors – ‘what do you do for on-line sales?’ – to be given the answer – ‘we put it in another box!!’
Currently available to trade customers, over the past 5 months, Morocco Gold has worked with DS Smith to design a bespoke solution specifically to meet our requirements for internet sales direct to end consumers. We were immensely impressed by the extensive researches that DS Smith had carried out to understand both the logistical rigours of ecommerce sales, including the dramatic increase in handling of product during delivery (up to 50 hand-offs), to customer expectations when products arrive and the opportunity to use packaging to enhance the customers experience – the ‘wow!’ factor.
The design solution that we have jointly developed is: as robust as a house-brick, to ensure each and every bottle of Morocco Gold arrives intact; anonymous from the outside – nobody can guess the value contained; easy to open – with a simple tear-strip; no wastage – no excess packaging, polystyrene chips, bubble wrap etc; completely recycle-able. And when you do tear the strip and open the box – the unique story of Morocco Gold is revealed as well as the luxury designed bottle of this fantastic new extra virgin olive oil.
Although from the outside, probably the most anonymous looking item in the show, we were delighted to note that the Morocco Gold ecommerce solution was drawing huge attention.
